Red Wines
Red wine is a type of wine made from dark-colored (black) grape varieties. The actual color of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red for mature wines and brown for older red wines. The juice from most purple grapes is greenish-white; the red color comes from anthocyan pigments (also called anthocyanins) present in the skin of the grape; exceptions are the relatively uncommon teinturier varieties, which produce a red colored juice. Much of the red-wine production process therefore involves extraction of color and flavor components from the grape skin.

COLOUR
Bright, pale maroon.
NOSE
An inviting perfume of red berry custard and spring garden aromas. A hint of doughy focaccia with a herb, tomato crust mingles with notes of sea spray, mushroom congee, bay leaf and sweet cinnamon quill to round out this enticing aroma.
PALATE
Dangerously succulent with an impressive backbone of tannins. Lingering complexities of Japanese mushroom custard and wild berry fruit of the forest remain.

APPEARANCE
Deep ruby with a purple tinge.
NOSE
Immediately fragrant with elegant cranberry, rose petal. There is incredible, enticing bright forest fruits with deep blackberry and hints of fresh baked bread crust, earthy mushroom, granite stone and steel.
PALATE
Juicy, intense and luscious on entry with fast building tannin, and incredibly firm, yet super-luscious concentrated raspberry, fresh vanilla pods and a delicious meatiness.
VILLA MARIA CELLAR SELECTION PINOT NOIR 2018 750ML
An aromatic Pinot Noir with a lively personality, this wine expresses strawberries, raspberries and red cherries on the nose, the hallmarks of a classic Marlborough Pinot Noir.
The ruby colour in the glass suggests juicy summer red fruits on the palate, intermingled with flavours of freshly roasted coffee beans and dark cocoa.
Silky soft tannins and a hint of dried herbs linger on the finish.
Our Marlborough Private Bin is a fruit-driven style Pinot Noir with a lively personality, this wine expresses an abundance of red cherries on the nose, along with baking spices such as clove and cinnamon.
On the palate, fruit flavours of cranberries and fresh raspberries are intermingled with freshly roasted coffee beans and soft cocoa like-tannins.

NOSE Harmonious fine fruit with savoury complexities, displaying perfumes of nashi pear, Granny Smith apples and nectarine skin with hints of lemon butter, herb salt, crushed shells and a hit of Chinese five spice.
PALATE A seamless palate with acidity that is so soft, yet shows stunning freshness. Creamy yet vibrant. This is a cool year, that shows restraint and super-fine balance.
